check one

one of the things on my list to was to finish my report on Amazon's Kindle.

and now i want one-- kinda. as cool as it would be buy a book and have it delivered directly, i think i would miss the feel of having a book in my hands to flip through...

other things in life are going good. wedding planning is going to start picking up soon. i'm in a little bit of sticker shock...so much money. school is almost over. work is good. and the office is still my favorite show.

i found this at one my favorite blogs: Life in the Office.

no day but today

last night whitney, jordan, and i went to see RENT at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. loved it!!! it was amazing--- better then the movie (although i still like the movie. i heart adam pascal.) there was a lot more sexual content in the actually musical then the movie, and at some parts my mouth was dropping opening. beautiful music, though. most the play in sang. i have the music soundtrack, but the original broadway CD has more song--currently bidding on one on ebay!

coming up on my performing arts agenda:

fairy tales

a couple of weeks ago I signed up for a harpercollins profile, which basically just keeps me updated on different authors and such. today i got an email that i had won one of their firstlooks drawings. i'm going to receive one of the advanced reader copies of EVER by Gail Carson Levine, author of Ella Enchanted. While I do like Ella Enchanted (both the book and the movie), I've also read her book Fairest, which I also like, so I'm pretty happy to receive Ever! I like the way Levine takes fairy tales and creates strong female characters. Fairest is somewhat like Snow White, and Ella Enchanted is close to Cinderella. I wonder what fairy tale Ever is modeled after (if any)? I suppose I could look it up but I think I'll keep it a surprise. My guess is Sleeping Beauty.

it doesn't come out until May 6, but you can pre-order it here.

Monday, March 3, 2008

Today was a good day.

most of my friends know i have a slight obsession with weddingbee

it's a wonderful blog.
(we will ignore the fact that i read it almost a year and a half before i was engaged.)
they have some great contest from time to time and
today i won their biggest contest yet.
ladies and gentlemen i give you my new mattress

that's right--it's a vera wang/serta. plus i get her snazzy new book SIGNED.
i did a wonderful happy dance.
and then called jordan. who promptly asked me who vera wang was.
hung up and called me mum. who knew who vera wang was.
it was a good day.

march is women's history month. i'm going to try to come up with a list of women each week who i admire for one reason or another, starting with my favorite women authors, whom i love for their works or personality
  1. Jane Austen- love love love her. currently reading northanger abbey.
  2. Ayn Rand- the fountainhead is one of my favorite books. trying to read atlas shrugged.
  3. Meg Cabot- great author with a great personality. i read her blog a a lot. she's very real and i can relate to a lot of what she writes (minus being a teen pop star, saving the president, and becoming a princess)
  4. Emily Dickinson- one of my favorites poets in the world. read "heart we will forget him". beautiful
  5. Charlotte Gilman- wrote my favorite short story ever, the yellow wallpaper, it's very good. active feminist, with women's mental health in mind.
  6. Maureen Johnson- i have read more than one book by her, but i have mentioned her in my blog before. loving the jk rowling references, hating the fact she was banned in my town's mid-high, on my list of my million books to read at the library
  7. Margaret Mitchell- gone. with. the. wind.
  8. Elizabeth Kostova- awaiting a new novel from her. loved the historian. one of the best books. pausing now to check amazon for new works. please hold.....nothin'
it's one am! i am going to sleep. more lists later.
